At our best friend’s service

When Charlemagne came into our lives in September 2005, Maurice and I were very disappointed not to be able to walk him in the Old Port where we used to walk. When entering the Old Port territory with our dog, we often were chased out.

Since then, I started to solicit the support of dog owners of Old Montréal in order to form an association to fight this Goliath: the Old Port. The first person to email me with enthusiasm following my suggestion was Jean Lessard, canine educator, who also lives in Old Montréal. He then signed, with Maurice and I, the dog park project we proposed the Old Port in 2006, which was rejected.

Other members came and joined us for a while on the Committee. Julie-Emmanuelle Carle was there from the beginning. She’s the one who suggested the space at the corner of Duke and Brennan as a possible dog park site, which has became our actual and beautiful dog park called parc Pilote.

Julie Zryl also got involved in our Committee. She took care of the park and she gave us excellent suggestions.

Many of the members who joined the Committee have now left the Old Montréal. Others were too busy to contribute or come to our meetings. Nevertheless, all participation was appreciated.

Since most of us have a pretty busy life, I suggest to all members who would like to participate to the vitality of our club, to do it at their convenience. If you’d like to suggest an activity, propose an idea to improve our dog park, an action to publicize our petition to the Old Port, if you’d like to take the lead, we can support you, publish it on our Website and in the park and, depending on your demand and our budget, we might be able to support it financially.

We will consider any activity, any action, aim at improving the lives of our best friends and the relationship between the canine world and the humane society of Old Montréal.

Thanks for your involvement, even just by becoming a member.

Our objectives

Following are our three main objectives:

  1. Bullet Continue to work with Borough Ville-Marie and the members of our club to improve our dog park and organize activities from time to time.

  2. BulletTry to bring the Old Port of Montréal Corporation to accept dogs on a leash on its territory, except maybe during the busiest time of he year.

  3. BulletTry to find some way, with or without the authorities, to strongly encourage dog owners to pick up after their dog.

If you share our views and wish to join the Club, please go to our page “Join in” where you’ll find more information.
